Study Room Terms of Use

1. Overview

Koydo Study Rooms (“Study Rooms”) provide collaborative learning features including persistent text chat, live video and audio communication, screen presence indicators, and shared study timers. By accessing or using Study Rooms, you agree to these terms in addition to the Koydo Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

2. Eligibility and Age Restrictions

Study Rooms are available to registered Koydo users. Users under the age of 13 (“child users”) are subject to additional protections under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Video and audio features are not available to users classified in early childhood or elementary age groups. A parent or legal guardian must provide verifiable consent before any child user may participate in Study Rooms.

3. User Conduct

You agree that when using Study Rooms, you will:

• Treat all participants with respect and refrain from harassment, bullying, hate speech, or discriminatory behavior.
• Not share obscene, violent, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate content through text, video, audio, or shared materials.
• Not solicit personal information (home addresses, phone numbers, financial details) from other users, particularly minors.
• Not impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity.
• Not use Study Rooms for any purpose other than collaborative learning and academic discussion.
• Comply with all applicable local, state, national, and international laws and regulations.

4. Video, Audio, and Chat Communications

Opt-In: Video and audio features are strictly opt-in. Your camera and microphone are never activated without your explicit action.

No Recording by Koydo: Koydo does not record video or audio streams from Study Room sessions. Text messages in persistent group chats are stored to provide chat history and are subject to the Koydo Privacy Policy.

No Recording by Users: You may not record, capture, screenshot, or otherwise reproduce video, audio, or image content of other participants without their express written consent. Violation of this provision may result in immediate account termination.

Third-Party Infrastructure:Live video and audio are provided through Daily.co, a third-party service. By using video/audio features, you also agree to Daily.co’s terms and privacy practices. Koydo transmits only your display name and a session identifier to Daily.co.

5. Content Ownership and Responsibility

You retain ownership of all content you share in Study Rooms (messages, resources, links). However, you grant Koydo a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and transmit your content as necessary to operate the Study Rooms feature. You are solely responsible for the content you share and any consequences thereof.

6. Moderation and Safety

Room hosts may mute or remove participants who violate these terms. Koydo reserves the right to moderate, suspend, or terminate Study Room access for any user who violates these terms or the Koydo Terms of Service, without prior notice.

Koydo may implement automated content filtering and manual review processes to maintain a safe learning environment. If you encounter inappropriate behavior, you may report it using the in-app reporting tools.

7. Privacy and Data

Persistent chat messages are stored on Koydo servers and are accessible only to active group members. Video and audio streams are transmitted in real-time and are not stored by Koydo. Participation metadata (join/leave times, session duration) is collected for analytics and safety monitoring purposes. All data handling is governed by the Koydo Privacy Policy.

8. Parental/Guardian Acknowledgment

If you are a parent or legal guardian consenting on behalf of a minor, you acknowledge that:

• Your child may communicate with other users via text chat in Study Rooms.
• Video and audio features (where age-permitted) allow real-time face-to-face communication with other users.
• While Koydo implements safety measures including COPPA compliance, age-gating, and host moderation tools, no technology can guarantee complete safety in peer-to-peer communications.
• You accept responsibility for monitoring your child’s use of Study Rooms and discussing safe online communication practices with them.

9. Assumption of Risk

You acknowledge and agree that participation in Study Rooms involves communication with other users whose identities and intentions cannot be fully verified by Koydo. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

• Koydo is not responsible for the conduct, statements, or content shared by other users in Study Rooms.
• Koydo does not guarantee the accuracy, safety, or appropriateness of user-generated content.
• You voluntarily assume all risks associated with participating in Study Room communications, including but not limited to exposure to content you may find offensive, objectionable, or harmful.
• Koydo’s liability for any claims arising from Study Room usage is limited to the amount you have paid to Koydo in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Koydo, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to your use of Study Rooms, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of another user.

11. Termination

Koydo may suspend or terminate your access to Study Rooms at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use Study Rooms ceases immediately, though these terms survive to the extent they relate to prior use.

12. Changes to These Terms

Koydo reserves the right to modify these terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of Study Rooms after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. If a new version requires re-consent, you will be prompted to accept before accessing Study Rooms.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in accordance with the dispute resolution provisions of the Koydo Terms of Service.
